2024-25 Add $1 Miami HEAT Donation Program
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
“Will you donate $1 to support pet adoptions and veterinary services in Miami-Dade County?”
What is Add $1?
ADD $1 is a Miami HEAT charity program that will allow guests at Kaseya Center concession stands and all HEAT retail locations (as well as MiamiHEATStore.com) to donate $1 to their purchase at the point of sale. 100% of the funds raised will be donated to the Miami HEAT Charitable Fund at the Miami Foundation in benefit of a local HEAT-designated charity for the entirety of the 2024-25 NBA season to maximize impact and support the community that supports us. Proceeds for this season will benefit Miami-Dade County Animal Services (Animal Services) to provide resources to assist with the pet overpopulation crisis shelters have been experiencing, supplement free & low-cost spay/neuter to help control overpopulation and support the Wellness on Wheels (WOW) Mobile Veterinary Clinic which provides routine medical services at no charge throughout underserved communities in Miami-Dade County.
What is Miami-Dade County Animal Services?
Miami-Dade County Animal Services deeply values the unique emotional bond between humans and animals. They are dedicated to nurturing this unique relationship by making pet ownership accessible to all our community and enhancing the lives of both pets and residents.
Animal Services is a life-saving animal welfare agency that provides refuge and care to lost or abandoned pets and has programs dedicated to rehoming these pets. Since 2015, Animal Services has saved the lives of over 90% of the pets that come into the shelter. Why is it important to support our Miami-Dade County Animal Services’ shelter?
Animal shelters across the country are experiencing an overpopulation crisis and Miami-Dade County Animal Services is no exception. The Miami-Dade County animal shelter has a capacity for 350 dogs, but on average has housed 650 dogs daily including the use of a temporary facility.
Your donation will help solve the overpopulation crisis, which will take a multi-prong approach that includes community awareness and education, increased accessible spay and neuter services, increasing adoptions and promoting responsible pet ownership. Reducing reproduction and providing pets with registered microchips will help reduce the number of pets that end up in shelters.
When you donate to Animal Services you are supporting life-saving programs, reuniting pets with their families, and ensuring the well-being of both animals and people. Together we can make a difference and create a brighter future for all.
Why is the Miami HEAT supporting Animal Services?
The HEAT appreciates the important role and benefits our pets play in our lives. Pets help humans by boosting our mental health through companionship, making us feel less alone, bringing us a sense of purpose, joy and laughter and thus help to reduce our stress levels and uplift our mood. During difficult times in our lives pets can offer much needed comfort and support. Additionally, pets can help us experience the outdoors with greater frequency and add much needed exercise to our daily routine.
In light of the current overpopulation crisis in shelters across the country, there is good reason to support Animal Services. By helping draw attention to the crisis and providing support to current and prospective pet owners across Miami-Dade County the HEAT hopes to help keep pets healthy and happy with their families. The HEAT’s support will also create awareness and engage our community in managing pet overpopulation by reducing the number of pets arriving at our local shelter, and aid in the placement of pets from Animal Services into loving homes throughout South Florida to the benefit of all.
